Major Consequences

Rising Sea Levels: Thermal expansion of seawater and the melting of glaciers and ice sheets are causing sea levels to rise, threatening low-lying coastal areas, small island nations, and major coastal cities with increased flooding and erosion.


Extreme Weather Events: Climate change intensifies the frequency and severity of extreme weather, including heatwaves, droughts, intense rainfall, and powerful hurricanes or cyclones. These events lead to loss of life, damage to infrastructure, and displacement of populations.


Threats to Food Security: Changes in temperature and rainfall patterns disrupt agricultural cycles. Prolonged droughts and erratic weather negatively impact crop yields and livestock, threatening food security in vulnerable regions.


Biodiversity Loss: Habitats are changing too quickly for many species to adapt. Rising ocean temperatures cause coral bleaching, and altered climates put forests and wetlands under stress, leading to accelerated rates of species extinction.
